Crowd-Pleasing Pulled Pork Bao Buns

Pulled pork is the king of slow-cooked comfort food — but wrap it in a soft, fluffy bao bun, and you’ve got a dinner party winner. These DIY buns are fun, flavourful, and easier than they look.

🐖 Why It Works:

  • Shoulder is ideal for slow cooking and shredding

  • The sweetness of pork pairs beautifully with Asian flavours

  • A hands-on meal that’s great for families or entertaining guests

🍯 What You’ll Need:

  • 2kg pork shoulder (boned and rolled)

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

  • Bao buns (store-bought or homemade)

  • Quick-pickled carrot & cucumber

  • Hoisin sauce or sriracha mayo

⏲️ Method:

  1. Rub the pork with soy, honey, five-spice, and garlic. Marinate overnight if possible.

  2. Slow-roast at 140°C for 6–8 hours until it pulls apart effortlessly.

  3. Shred with two forks and toss in its own cooking juices.

  4. Warm the bao buns by steaming or microwaving.

  5. Set up a build-your-own station with pickles, sauces, and fresh herbs.

🥢 Serving Suggestion:

  • Garnish with fresh coriander, sesame seeds, and spring onions.

  • Pair with Asian slaw or sticky rice for a full feast.

🔪 Butcher’s Tip:

Shoulder works best — we’ll bone and roll it for you so it’s oven-ready. Cook more than you need and save leftovers for tacos or fried rice.
